HOW TO HANG A HAMMOCK CHAIR

Safe Use of Your Hammock Chair

Prior to each use inspect your chair, hardware, installation points and objects supporting the chair for wear or weakness. Proceed carefully and take your time getting into and out of your chair. Excessive bouncing and other rough play increases the load on the chair and hardware and may wear out your chair and hardware prematurely.  Maximum safe weight is 200 pounds.

! CAUTION: FALLING AND STRANGULATION HAZARD! CHILDREN CAN BECOME ENTANGLED IN HAMMOCK STRINGS. DO NOT LEAVE CHILDREN UNATTENDED IN HAMMOCK CHAIR.

Caring for your Hammock Chair

Under normal use your chair will last for many years.  You can increase its useful life by putting it away during cold seasons (store it dry), and by hanging it where it will be shaded most of the day. Guard against animals such as dogs or rodents chewing or nesting in your chair.

Cleaning your Hammock Chair

The synthetic rope of your hammock chair is washable with warm water and a mild detergent or soap. Do not use harsh chemical cleaners or bleach. Rinse well and dry thoroughly before storage.

About the Wood Finish

Your chair’s wood spreader board is solid white oak. The oak has been finished with an exterior Urethane resistant to UV, mold and weather.

Using Hammock Chair Hanging Kit
We recommend using a Hammock Chair Hanging Kit, which includes 2’ of welded steel chain, a 3/8" (1 cm) steel lag bolt, a swivel “U” bolt (which allows chair to swing around without unscrewing bolt from beam), washers, and 2 “S” hooks. Please use this or hardware with equivalent strength and design.

Hanging a Hammock Chair                                                                                                                      All hammock chairs should be hung at least 6 feet off the ground. If you don't have a sturdy tree or open beam to tie the chair to, follow the hanging instructions below.  Find a point in the ceiling that has a beam or ceiling support (support is located in most ceilings every 16 inches – hammer a small nail into the spot you locate to check that it is a solid support.) Wooden joists or rafters should be a minimum size of 2” X 8” (5 cm X 20 cm) or equivalent.  The support must be in good condition and installed properly. Consult a professional for information on hanging your chair from other supports such as concrete ceilings. Weight limit is 200 pounds.  Locate the center of the beam. Drill a starter hole with a 5/16 inch drill bit 3” deep into the wooden support. In narrow supports such as 2” wide joists or rafters, make sure that the hole is centered in the wooden support. Pre-assemble the lag bolt, small washer, “U” hook and large washer. Screw this assembly into the hole using 9/16” wrench. Tighten lag bolt until all the threads are embedded in the wooden support. The lag bolt should be snug but the “U” hook should be able to turn with your hand. Do not over tighten. Attach the small “S” hook between the “U” hook and the upper part of the chain. Attach the large “S” hook between the lower end of the chain and the top ring of hammock chair. Use the chain to adjust your chair to the height you desire. It is normal for the chair to stretch somewhat when it is new.  CAUTION: DO NOT WRAP THE CHAIN AROUND EITHER “S” HOOK OR ALLOW CHAIN TO BE TWISTED BETWEEN THE CHAIR AND THE “U” HOOK. ANY OF THESE CONDITIONS MAY WEAKEN THE CHAIN.
